The crash analysis of the I-440 bridge over Crabtree Creek did not reveal any previous incidents such as the triggering event. During the five year study period, there were a total of 28 collisions that resulted in no fatalities and six injuries. Specifications and guidelines for bridge rail type were also examined for this location. Since pedestrians and bicyclists are prohibited from full control of access facilities such as I-440, the existing bridge rail meets current specifications and guidelines. For reference, excerpts from the North Carolina Department of Transportation. The results of this analysis have been forwarded to the Regional Traffic Engineers office for further review as deemed necessary by that office.
