This report is the 2001 Annual Report on Port State Control (PSC) in the United States. The Coast Guard is strongly committed to sharing our PSC targeting methodology and publishing PSC compliance performance with the maritime community. Doing so is the cornerstone of our efforts to eliminate substandard trade as we work to strengthen our global partnerships. The total number of distinct vessel arrivals was 7842. The total number of detained ships declined from 193 to 172. Of the 51,345 port calls made by 7842 individual vessels from 93 different flag States, 10,711 exams were conducted.
