The National Road Administration has commissioned investigations by the VTI (Swedish Road and Traffic Research Institute) aimed at creating a new basis for road construction directives concerning compaction of soil material and inspection of results in compaction. The investigation was mainly aimed at using testing and evaluation of a number of new and/or improved methods to measure the results of compaction. A further aim was to compare the compaction effect of vibrating and oscillating rollers and to determine differences between these in crushing a base course material during compaction.
