An onboard orbit determination method for a low Earth orbiter, using range and/or Doppler measurements transiting via one or two data relay satellites is presented. The estimation method relies on a Kalman filtering algorithm. Simple but sufficiently accurate modeling techniques, allowing to take into account uncertainties due to Earth potential, atmospheric drag, and propulsion errors during a maneuver, are illustrated by application examples.
