In March 1972, the Earth Science Branch conducted a soil container load test on a buried 18=inch (46-cm) diameter reinforced plastic mortar (RPM) pipe joint. Details of the soil container, instrumentations, and procedures are given in Report REC-ERC-71-35. The joint was in the center of the tested section as shown in figure 1. Figure 2 shows the installation in the soil container test. A cross section of the joint detail is shown in figure 3. Twelve density tests were made during the backfilling of the soil around the pipe.
