A continuous gravitational process to separate oil pollutant from ships' bilge water using simple and compact equipment is proposed. The principle of the process is discussed. For an oil-water mixture of known concentration and density, the location of the interface inside the separator for different flow rates can be predicted. Laboratory experiments will be conducted to test the proposed process prior to consideration of further tests aboard ship. (Author)
