The purpose of this Handbook is to present microbiological background information useful to personnel working on a planetary spacecraft program who have training and experience in the physical sciences, but none in the life sciences. This handbook was not written for microbiologists, although it may contain information useful to them in specific spacecraft applications. (Author)
