For flight planning, airliners require the most accurate weather forecast. The level of confidence of the weather forecast has a direct influence on the fuel consumption of aviation in general. A statistical analysis has been carried out in order to define the cause and effect of inaccuracies in the weather forecast. It is indicated how the weather forecast can be improved and fuel savings can be obtained by making use of aircraft information.
