Entering upon the year of digital-audio, the system that enables the recording of PCM signal using a cassette tape equal in size to the conventional is attracting attention due to the ease of handling and the superior performance in the audio. This paper outlines the stationary-head PCM tape recorder and the method of error correction developed by Toshiba.
