A NAVAST simulation tool was developed. It consists of a library with independent models that simulate a specific part of the NAVSAT system. Each model has precise defined interfaces and communicates with other models via time-tagged messages. The internal actions in a model can be chosen at will without affecting other models. A simulator building tool composes specific simulators from selected models out of the library. The fixed core of these simulators consists of a message-routing system that controls the dataflow between models. Ground segment models; spacecraft orbit models, including realistic orbit perturbations; ionospheric propagation models, based on the Bent model; and user receiver models including the solution of the navigation equations based on nonlinear filtering techniques are included. Simulation results indicate that the worldwide navigation accuracy of NAVSAT will be 10 to 15 m. The models can also simulate satellite telemetry processing, liquid sloshing, and air traffic control.
