The European Space Agency (ESA) activities and programs are summarized. Information concerning major establishments, political management, budget, and planned investments is provided. Results from ESA scientific running programs and news from projects under development are presented. They include: Horizon 200 project, X-ray Multi-Mirror, Far Infrared Submillimeter Telescope, Infrared Space Observatory, Huygens Probe, Meteosat satellite, European Remote Sensing satellites, microgravity, and manned space flights. The role of ESA in the field of telecommunication is overviewed. The success of Ariane and the future market for ESA launchers are considered. ESA partnerships and international cooperation to develop human intervention in space are discussed.
