The principal goal of the Strategic Highway Research Program's Long-Term Pavement Performance (SHRP-LTPP) study was the design of an approach for the collection of information and development of analysis procedures capable of providing short, intermediate, and long-term findings for improving overall pavement performance. Minimal improvements in highway performance will far exceed the entire cost of the SHRP-LTPP program. As a consequence, a major activity of SHRP-LTPP was the establishment of a National Pavement Performance Database (NPPDB) to support the goals, objectives, and needs of the LTPP program. The SHRP-LTPP Overview Report should be consulted if the reader desires additional information concerning the overall LTPP program. (Copyright (c) 1994 National Academy of Sciences.)
