The importance of standardization in satellite attitude control systems by using onboard computers, is discussed and exemplified by a proposal for the Aeros satellite. The present situation shows the development of special attitude control systems for each satellite, involving high costs and repeated qualification tests. The application of onboard computers allows use of the same control modules for different applications. A standardization is proposed by using a powerful central digital onboard computer capable of simultaneous processing of multiple tasks. This concept is applied to the Aeros satellite attitude control system, and the consequences for other spacecraft payloads are discussed. (Author)
