Terminal Control Systems (TCS) employing Automatic Container Identification (ACI) employs optical scanning devices that read color coded labels applied to marine freight containers. In a marine terminal, data from the scanners on inbound and outbound container movements, handled by rail or truck, and units being loaded and discharged from containerships, are transmitted directly to a central computer for on-line/real-time terminal control, terminal security and management reports.
