A review is presented of activities of the Delft Hydraulics Laboratory in the field of bedforms, resistance to flow and sediment transport in uni-directional flow. Both theoretical and experimental work is dealt with. The experimental work comprises both measurements in straight laboratory flumes and field measurements, the latter being carried out by the Dutch Ministry of Public Works and Water Management.
