The Power Standard defines the requirements on electrical power systems to be applied by contractors and subcontractors to ESA spacecraft and associated equipment or payloads. The Power Standard consists of two volumes, which support two guideline specifications. This document, volume 2, a reference document, is called the Power standard Rationale (PR); it serves as a guide for volume 1 by explaining the rationale of the requirements specified in volume 1. Volume 1, the standard itself, is called Power Standard (PS). The guidelines for the establishment of a power supply subsystem specification and the guidelines for the establishment of an electrical unit specification are given.
