The rolling resistance of tires was determined in a practical road test. A test vehicle was developed for this purpose and first results are described in the paper. The rolling resistance between tire and road is a constituent of the total driving resistance of vehicles and thus influences fuel consumption. The potential saving is, indeed, relatively small, but it is significant enough to be considered during tire and vehicle development.
