The study is an investigation of the manpower requirements and costs to support vehicle maintenance operations of public transportation motor bus and demand responsive services. The objectives of this study are to: (1) record current (1990-91) cost and manpower data for various fleet sizes of motor buses and demand responsive services, (2) update vehicle maintenance budget models in support of various fleet sizes, (3) compare collected data with similar data from a 1984/85 California study, and (4) identify any needs for additional management tools and/or public transportation maintenance management training. This study of the Commonwealth of Virginia is one part of a larger project that involves similar surveys being undertaken simultaneously throughout twelve other states. Reports profiling other individual states' data are also available, and a separate stand-alone report recaps the entire national study.
