The Directive reissues DoD Directive 5122.5, June 15, 1982, and establishes, pursuant to the authority vested in the Secretary of Defense under Title 10, United States Code, Section 136, one of the positions of Assistant Secretary of Defense as the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Public Affairs), with responsibilities, functions, and authorities. The Directive disestablishes the Defense Information Services Activity (DISA) and consolidates its functions into the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Public Affairs).
