The Second Avenue Bypass is a four lane relocation from Greenfield Avenue to the Glenwood Bridge, approximately two miles. The regional environmental significance of the proposed highway improvement would be minimal. Each of the five playgrounds variously affected by the four corridors has local, neighborhood patronage. The use of Traffic Route 885 through the Hazelwood area is limited primarily to the residents of southeastern Pittsburgh and its neighboring suburbs. The aesthetical improvements which the construction of this project would cause would be appreciated almost exclusively by these people. Of regional significance is the fact that Traffic Route 885 is a major link between Downtown Pittsburgh and the Allegheny County Airport in West Mifflin Borough. Since this air facility is scheduled for steady expansion in the future, any improvement to Traffic Route 885 between Downtown and West Mifflin would better serve this increasingly important airport.
