This Test Operating Procedure (TOP) provides procedures for safety qualification (SQ) testing of short range air defense (SHORAD) missiles during Development Testing (DT I, II, III) and First Article Initial Production Tests (FA-IPT). Safety qualification tests may be conducted on pre-production missile configurations to support safety releases for operational tests. It is essential that safety qualification tests be conducted on production configuration rounds, on production items from a new vendor, and on first items produced after a production line has been idle 6 months or longer. These tests are also applicable to Product Improvement Programs when changes are made to warhead, missile rocket motor assembly, or other components which could affect stockpile-to-launch safety. Tests conducted in accordance with this TOP are limited to missile only and intended to be conducted on complete tactical SHORAD missile rounds except as noted.
