A review and categorization is made of available published locomotive cab accident reports and statistics, as well as of unpublished accident reports from a number of individual railroads. Major hazards related to locomotive control compartment accidents are identified and categorized in summation form. Conclusions stress the need for designing greater elemental safety in strength and location of the control compartment, as well as providing a more livable environment for occupants in the control compartment of locomotives.
