Numbers of DUI arrests have increased significantly over pre-ASAP levels and throughout ASAP operation. These increases are due to increases in regular patrol arrests during ASAP operation. The patrol teams who operate in urbanized areas are more efficient in DUI detection than those in rural areas. It would be possible to substantially increase arrest numbers if detection capabilities at lower BAC levels were improved. A time series analysis of jurisdictional crash data showed that there has been no significant changes in crashes during ASAP operation.
