Field tests with combat vehicles, in order to predict off-road trafficability have been conducted on bogs. During these field-tests a system for simultaneous determination of sinkage and position of a moving vehicle has been developed and tested. The system consists of two parts, an ultrasonic sensor mounted on the vehicle and an infrared distance-meter placed in a fixed position on the ground behind the vehicle. The results are discussed and compared with manual measurements.
