An experiment was performed to investigate the proficiencies of student pilots trained to the required flight performance for a private pilot's certificate in airplanes incorporating a stability augmentation system. Two selected flight schools trained five subjects each. Upon reaching the required proficiency, each student was given three separate flight checks with and without the use of the stability systems and an additional check in a same class airplane not having a stability system. Results indicated pilot competence was not effected one way or another by training with such a system. All students met the required performance standards and were issued unlimited private pilots certificates. (Author)
