This report is the 2000 Annual Report on Port State Control (PSC) in the United States. The Coast Guard is strongly committed to sharing our PSC targeting methodology and publishing PSC compliance performance with the maritime community. Doing so is the cornerstone of our efforts to eliminate substandard trade as we work to strengthen our global partnerships. The total number of vessels visiting U.S. ports rose slightly from 1999 to 2000, and the number of detained ships declined. Of the 51,871 port calls made by 7657 individual vessels from 95 different Flag States, 11,767 exams were conducted and 193 vessels were detained.
