The study updates and expands the 1968 Senate Public Works Committee's Metropolitan Area Pilot Transportation Study on the same subject. The study begins with initial demographic data and ridership forecasts and then proceeds to examine the operational status of the railroads in the Washington Metropolitan Area. Thereupon, a presentation is made of alternate rail service models, capital and operational costs, and finally implementation of proposed restructured commuter rail service in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area.
