The United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) is proposing to install a new fiber optic line to provide the required redundancy to the base s communication system from Building 8130 in the Service and Supply Area to the south electrical substation off Park Drive. The fiber optic line will be placed in a shallow trench excavated within the mow track or dirt roadway edge and along the New Santa Fe Trail corridor. All spoils from the trench will be stockpiled on the trail or road for backfilling the excavation. The crossing of Monument Creek will be accomplished by routing the fiber optic cable through a conduit attached to the footbridge. This will eliminate impacts to wetlands, floodplains, and Preble s Meadow Jumping Mouse habitat.
