The main topic of the report is the aeronautical engineer's interest and possible contribution towards the development of hydrofoil craft. The hydrofoil's aeronautical heritage is underlined and its proper place in the transportation spectrum is explored, together with an endeavour to factually defend this vehicle against underestimation of its usefulness and capability. The report closes with a presentation of the contemporary hydrofoils and examination of the projects now in the course of materialisation. The aeronautical engineer is invited to cooperate closely with the naval architect and is warned against an undiluted contribution to hydrofoil art, such as indiscriminate application of aerospace techniques to stability and control problems and other sophisticated technologies, which may endanger the viability of the future hydrofoil.
