The U.S. port industry faces the constant challenge of providing shippers and ocean and inland carriers with modern and efficient marine terminals. To meet the challenge, port communities have invested millions of dollars in developing new facilities and in modernizing and rehabilitating existing facilities. The report analyzes the financial investment made by the U.S. public port industry between 1946 and 1989.
