This document covers the high altitude phase of the test program on Altitude Transmission Equipment. In close cooperation with Northest Airlines, technical data and Air Traffic Control (ATC) operations analysis were obtained from the regularly scheduled flights of a Convair 880 which was instrumented with this equipment. For the most part, the technical data yielded expected results with the exception of the poor returns from inbound flights at long ranges. Operational feasibility was demonstrated whereby live altitude reporting from an equipped commercial airliner operating within the normal ATC environment was automatically available to the ground.
