This series of technical notes, 'Cloud Sampling Instruments for Icing Test Flights,' provides information and guidance for devices that are most commonly used for measuring cloud water and droplet sizes during aircraft certification test flights in natural icing conditions. Advice is given on the suitability, procedure, and precautions for using various instruments and on data analysis techniques. This technical note is devoted to a common icing rate (or icing severity) indicator--the Goodrich (formerly Rosemount) model 0871FA icing detector.
