The study of desert road problems has now progressed to a point where the Military Roads Branch is able to draw conclusions and offer tentative recommendations relative to a Pioneer Road Set for the 'break through' and maintenance of supply routes as may be required by combat troops operating in desert terrain. As a result of development studies and tests conducted by the Engineer Board Desert Test Branch it has been concluded that three Pioneer Road Equipment Sets should be provided for each combat division operating in desert terrain and that each Pioneer Road Equipment Set should consist of the following items: (1) Two Tractors, Crawler, Medium w/bulldozer, each carried on a Transport, Desert, Medium Tractor. (2) Two V Drags, Road, Desert, Brush Cutter type each propelled by a D-7 Crawler Tractor or equivalent. (3) Two Graders, Road, Motorized, High Speed type - Adams or equivalent or Standard Galion equipped with 13.00 x 24 tires all around to permit desert operation. In accordance with the above conclusions, the Military Roads Branch recommends that the following items of equipment be standardized for procurement: (1) V Drags, Road, Desert, Brush Cutter type. (2) Transport, Desert, Medium Tractor. (3) Grader, Road, Motorized, High Speed type, Adams Model 402.
