The speaker begins with a presentation of the history of Navy Computer-aided Acquisition and Logistics Support (CALS). He then talks of its present scope and the progress made in building a comprehensive infrastructure for the digital creation, management and use of all Navy weapon system technical data. The major weapon system acquisition programs for SEAWOLF submarine, AEGIS destroyers and cruisers, AX aircraft, and others are addressed. Navy CALS of tomorrow will culminate in the completion and integration of the infrastructure, in the reality of the 'paperless ship,' and in full Navy partnership in the Department of Defense's (DoD's) Integrated Weapon System Data Base.
