The Army Concept Team in Vietnam evaluated the Marginal Terrain Assault Bridge Launcher (MTAB-L) to determine its suitability in the combat environment of RVN. The MTAB-L has two basic items, a bridge and a launcher both mounted on an M113A1 APC. The bridge consists of two extruded flat aluminum treadway sections which fold at the center. It is designed to support class 12 loads and has a span of 33 feet. The launcher is welded to the hull of the APC and hydraulically emplaces and retracts the bridge. (Author)
