The report is an appraisal of the Sparrow Guided Missile System, AN/APQ 36, as its installation is planned in the F-3D and F-10F airplanes. The AN/APQ 36 was originally planned for installation in the F-3D, a two-place fighter carrying a pilot and a radar operator. It would also be desirable to use this guidance system in a high performance single-seater aircraft such as the F-10F. The problem posed then was whether the pilot can accomplish both pilot and radar operator duties adequately to make successful missions. This appraisal suggests that such one-man operation is feasible.
