One Thiokol Chemical Corporation TE-M-479 solid-propellant rocket motor, (S/N PV32-284-3) modified for use in the Radio Astronomy Explorer -B (RAE-B) spacecraft, was tested at an average pressure altitude of 110,000 ft while spinning about its axial centerline at 50 rpm. The primary objectives of this program were to determine the altitude ballistic performance of the motor when preconditioned at 40 plus or minus 5F, determine motor temperature-time history, evaluate component structural integrity, and determine the nonaxial (lateral) force produced by the motor while spinning about its axial centerline at 50 rpm. Motor ballistic performance, temperature-time history during and after motor operation, structural integrity evaluation, and lateral force data are presented and discussed.
