An outline is given of dynamic modeling for flexible spacecraft/space manipulator systems, such that a linear recursive, Order-N algorithm is obtained. Techniques for modeling the structural deformation field displayed by the flexible manipulator link, are reviewed. Different deformation field models lead to different system dynamic responses. These differences in response are investigated in a reference application involving the large-angle, minimum-time transfer of a heavy payload as part of a payload berthing maneuver.
