Numerical hypersonic aerodynamic studies of space planes, H-2 Orbiting Plane (HOPE). and OREX (Orbital Re-entry EXperiment) have been conducted for several years. In this paper, the analysis of the aerodynamic heating and real gas effects is described. Numerical results are compared with the heat transfer data obtained by various experimental techniques.
