A differential game is formed by two aircraft performing a long range missile duel. The duel starts for each aircraft with an aggressive phase until missile launch then evasion commences. In solving the differential game problem an optimization algorithm consisting of a first order differential dynamic programming method combined with an effective convergence control technique is used. A transversality condition is derived. Three dimensional spatial motion of point masses vehicles are used. The models for aircraft and missiles are fully realistic with speed and altitude dependent performance and associated constraints. The results from optimizing the problem point out potential tactics. The desirability of entering the game with a higher altitude/velocity condition than the opponent is stressed.
