The Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) is New Mexico's tool for maintaining and improving the state's regional transportation systems. The STIP reflects NMHSTD's commitment to maximize travel safety, reduce traffic congestion and support economic development through wise investment in infrastructure. The STIP also indicates a greater emphasis on pavement preservation by the department to extend the useful life of existing roads. Recent efforts to address highway needs through concentrated construction and maintenance of entire corridors has produced systemic improvements. The new approach is also reflected in this STIP.
