The United States Microgravity Payload (USMP) program is a series of missions developed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to provide scientists with the opportunity to conduct research in the unique microgravity environment of the Space Shuttle's payload bay. The USMP program has been established to conduct scientific and technological investigations in materials and fundamental sciences while establishing United States preeminence in microgravity research. This research will provide the foundation for advanced scientific investigations on future Space Shuttle, Space Station Freedom, and free-flyer missions and will demonstrate the advanced technology necessary to conduct these missions.
