To satisfy a requirement for a landing approach profile representative of jet training aircraft and procedures, a single phototheodolite was used to track jet aircraft during approximately 575 VFR approaches to landing. Plots of altitude vs. range, speed vs. range, aim point vs. range, and frequency of touchdowns vs. range were generated for several conditions: straight-in and overhead approaches, full stop and tough-and-go landings, one and two pilots, and so forth. Abnormal indications in the plots of speed and aim point plots, pending further work. The graphs of altitude vs. range and touchdown distribution were excellent, although differences between conditions were small and not significant. The shape of the touchdown distribution is more symmetrical than that previously reported for airline aircraft and for USAF jet fighters. (Author)
