One of the prime aims of the design of the standardized Pendelbuses was to improve the environment of the passenger and the driver. A great deal of thought was given to the placement of the driver and his controls to give adequate forward and side vision, and to afford him ease of operating the controls, thus ensuring optimum efficiency, safety and comfort. The design of the passenger seats was based on ergonomic data; the seats are a complete departure from the bus seats at present in use. Practical tests were carried out to ascertain the optimum grade of foam for the cushion and backrest. Particular attention has been paid in the design to facilitate servicing and maintenance. An attempt has been made to reduce noise and vibration as much as possible to improve the passenger environment.
