The purpose of the project is to expand the airport capabilities from general aviation to basic transport in order to accomodate larger aircraft. The environmental impact of the proposed action will be the change from agricultural to airport use of 200 plus acres of land. There exists an opportunity to develop outdoor recreation areas with wildlife plantings as a part of the plan in areas purchased for airport development. The area has for the most part been converted prior to the proposed development from forest lands to crop and grassland. The change from cropland to the airport type use will only occur on a portion of the area. The potential to improve wildlife habitat will exist in a large area purchased for airport development. The irreversible and irretrievable commitments of resources will be in the area developed for runways, aprons and taxiways. (Author)
