The purpose of the program reported herein was to perform an independent and disinterested evaluation of the performance of the Mars II, an electrically-powered derivative of the Renault 10 sedan. The evaluation was made from the standpoint of the user of such a vehicle under the normal highway environment of the conventional automobile. A direct comparison of an electrical and gasoline-powered vehicle was facilitated by inclusion in the program of comparative tests of an unmodified Renault 10. Since the behavior and capabilities of the R-10 are well known and within the experience of both the general public and the professional evaluator, the comparisons offer an effective means of communicating the results of the evaluation. The body of this document reports upon the objective engineering measurements which were made of some separate aspects of the Mars II performance (specifically range, acceleration, braking, maximum speed, ride, maneuverability).
