A detailed investigation to determine the applicability of radiochemical exchange techniques, using 'Kryptonates', as a system for detecting hydrogen vapor concentrations of 1% or less, aboard aerospace flight vehicles, was conducted. The optimum host material was found to be a 50-50 mixture of aluminum oxide and kryptonated platinum dioxide. This mixture can detect hydrogen in concentrations less than 1% with a response time of less than 0.5 seconds. An experimental model demonstrating the feasibility and applicability of the kryptonate detection system was constructed. (Author)
