Qualification tests of the TA-4E emergency escape system were conducted in accordance with a BuWeps approved Douglas test outline. The latter specified six dual seat ejections, with the cockpit canopy installed, to demonstrate system performance. Two ground level tests were specified at each of three aircraft velocities, V(zero), V(approach), and V(max). A seventh test, a V(max) rerun, and an eighth test, a V(zero) ejection without the cockpit canopy installed, were authorized subsequently.
