This report contains English language Reviews, Technical Papers, and Technical Notes by authors from the various laboratories in the Institute. These reports should be of interest to all personnel engaged in the transportation industry with particular emphasis on railways. This issue contains reviews on biological damage in railways and countermeasures and technical papers on: construction of elliptic sectional underpass by new pipe jacking method; development and application of analysis model for railroad traffic demand attendant on local improvement of railway transport; active-synchronization control system for DC linear motor; temperature rise of LIM reaction plate; a method of calculating the idle running time of a train with the air brake system; and effect of grain boundary segregation on the delayed fracture of high strength steels. Technical Notes cover such subjects as: experimental study for melting snow with infrared rays; right balance between service frequency and train set in railway passenger transport; development of CTC trouble recorder and other subjects.
