An evaluation was made of four roughness measuring devices used along with both a Present Serviceability Index and a panel type (PSR) rating system. The roughness measuring devices (PCA Road Meter in an automobile, PCA Road Meter in a station wagon, Mays Road Meter in an automobile and the BPR Roughometer) were tested for accuracy, repeatability and correlation ability with each other and the panel type rating system. The main conclusion drawn was that the Mays Road Meter is the better of the four considering all variables and conditions. (Author)
